Skagit River flyfishing for Pinks in September 2021

Skagit River fly fishing for pink salmon.

On Sept 1st I met former Fidalgo Fly Fisher Dr Steve Agiulu of Wenatchee at the T of Riverbend Rd on the south side of the Skagit, we put on our waders and hiked over the dike, found a convenient path down to the sand bar and waded into the river after I located a nice ripple seam of flowing water to fish.

We fished lead or tungsten eye pink shrimp flies in 4, 6 & 8.

Steve, who is 6' 5" and a very aggressive wader found a great place to fish about 30 yards below me.

for the day he hooked over 30 pinks, releasing all landed and I kept 2, released 9 and long line released another 10 pinks.

The water was low as you can see in several of my pictures. Steve flyfished the following day and on the Sunday before Labor Day and on Labor day.

i fished with my friend Bill Knutzen in his 16' Hewescraft river runner two of those days in the same hole.

Jim, thank you for the very detailed and thorough post about your time in the Skagit River. It looks like your intimate knowledge of the river and hard work really paid off. I look forward to seeing more from you in the future.

Take care, Bill
