Pass Night Fishing
My apologies for my absence this fall at the meetings. As for most, it has been a challenging time. I'm looking forward to upcoming meetings in the new year. I did want to reach out and wish everyone a Merry Xmas and give a pass fishing report. This time of year allows me easy access to prime night fishing, during a family friendly window of 5-8ish. Since it opened in early November I have put in a fair number of night shifts and have caught over 20 fish after dark. Surprising only 1 of them has been a brown trout! The large majority of have been chubby and feisty 20+ inch rainbows. Almost all have been taken on the top.
I wanted to share a link to a recent podcast about night fishing on troutbitten. It gave me a lot of new info and I hope to have a positive future report trying out the mouse emerger patterns they talk about, once I get my hands on some. One of the biggest tips was the so called "wiggle and hang" retrieve they discuss. I had primarily been using a Kelly Galloup "Jerk-strip" retrieve for my night fishing. I recently added the "wiggle and hang" and I am thoroughly impressed. I had a 7 fish night last night (my best ever on Pass-day or night) and most were enticed by the wiggle and hang. I encourage anyone interested in the night game to listen to this podcast and give the wiggle and hang a try. Hope everyone is well. Happy Holidays. -Joe

Thanks for the report Joe! We have not heard from you in a while, but knew it was only a matter of time before you graced us with your fishing report. The difference in the 2 methods is certainly fine tuning to a successful fisher, but proof that we can always learn from others. Thanks again for the tip and photos of your results. Stay warm out there and I hope to see you soon. Bill
