Daytrip to the Yakima River
On 20 Jan'21 Steven Foster and I drove over to the Yakima River for a day of fishing. Granted, it's a long day, but it's fishing, right?
We left Anacortes at 0700 from Marches Point Park & Ride and were gearing up at mile marker 20 in the canyon section of the Yakima River by 1000. Waders wet at 1030, we tried streamers (size 6 and 8 in olive), bead head nymphs without indicators (size 8 and smaller in brown, green and black), double nymph rigs (euro nymphing), nymphs (size 14-16 in green) under an indicator. No luck, but we were fishing!
The water conditions were a bit fast for my taste. The USGS site at Umtanum was running at 1980cfs, water clarity was good, the ambient temperatures were 32-41F, I cannot tell you the water temperature, I wanted Steven to dip his cellular phone in the water and tell me what it said - no luck! NOTE: A reasonable request, I've seen him take an underwater photo with his phone!
We waded several spots along the canyon road and got out of the water at 1630 (4:30pm for Robin). Not sure what time Steven got home, but I arrived at 2030 in Anacortes.
If the weather holds and the river flows drop a bit, I'm interested in another go at it. If you are interested, just let me know.

Let me know I'm up for a trip over
