Inslee/Murray Study of Snake River Dam Removal

Friends, this is a follow up to my earlier post regarding Snake River dam removal.

In late 2021, Gov. Inslee and Sen. Murray commissioned a feasibility study of dam removal. The draft report was issued in early June. ** Public comment on the draft report is open until July 11th. **

The high level summary is that removal is feasible but will major investment over the next few decades to physically breach the dams and mitigate the follow-on impacts to power generation, irrigation, and shipping. It's noteworthy that well over ten billion has already been spent over the past few decades in an unsuccessful attempt to sustain these salmon runs.

This Seattle Times article hits the highlights pretty well: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/environment/new-state-federal-report-puts-10-27-billion-price-tag-on-lower-snake-river-dam-removal/

You can read the full draft report here: https://www.lsrdoptions.org/ Comments can be submitted at this same link, or can be sent via email to info@lsrdoptions.org with the email subject line “Draft LSRD Benefit Replacement Report.”

I hope you will make your voice heard!

Thank you -

Dean Campbell
