Furled Leader Instructions
These notes are somewhat cryptic but if you make your way through them and take your time at the different stages, they will make more sense. These first notes are the final stages but the trickiest stages of building the leaders. The hyperlinks will take you to different articles that I have referenced in my learning process. If you want to discuss, feel free to call me. Phil 360-391-0861
Exchange paper clip on small end with 2 thin differently colored wire. Twist wires enough to stay in loop.
Exchange paper clip on large end with knit picker. Pull leader (3 inches) through large loop straightening out to smooth loop and then do shorb loop on large end.
Slide tippet ring onto small end of leader. Put small knit picker on vice and stretch out small end loop to fit over knit picker. Grab large loop and pull small end over large loop making a also for the tippet ring. Remove wires from small end.

How to Make a Furled Leader for Fly Fishing
Shorb loop pics (Link is same as .pdf below):
http://www.furledleaders.co.uk/pdf/how-to-shorb-loop.pdf
First off, there is the SHORB loop at the end that connects to the line in a loop to loop (hand shake) style.
I make mine in 5', 5 1/2', and 6' lengths in different tapers for line weight. (ex: 2 - 4, 4 - 6, 6 - 8) I have even made bigger ones. I also make some with kevlar for both strength and sinking.
I use to make mine with the shorb loop on the tippet end, but found they don't last as long as the tippet cuts into the leader after time, so the rings are fantastic.
RINGS: There are several sizes. Again I don't know about Feather Craft. I use 2 mm wich is about the size of a #16 hook eye and a 3 mm which is about the size of a #12. Bigger rings are required for heavier leaders as there will be more material going through the ring.
Now you can attach as much tippet to them as you want. No need to tapper the tippet. I have used 5' of tippet on a 5' furled and it laid down very nice. If you think it will help, then by all means try it, but I have never need to.
Hopefully you will love the heck out of them and if you want to try one in UNI THREAD, give me a shout.

Twisting
Stage 1: how long should you run the drill? As the leg gets twisted up, it tends to shorten. When its length has shortened by about ten percent, it is about time to stop twisting. This does vary a bit with the material. Another approach is to do an estimated number of turns. My drill turns 1000 look rpm. For 4-pound mono, for the jig dimensions shown, I find about 750 turns (forty-five seconds at 1000 rpm) is about right. Two-pound mono seems to want about 1000 turns (sixty seconds). For the Uni thread and the "Invisible Thread" about 1250 turns (seventy-five seconds) will do it. YMMV (Your mileage may vary).
My drill is 1,300 rpm - 4 lb - 40 seconds, 2 lb 50 seconds
Stage 2:
So how long to run the drill? Do it until you feel the leader start to shorten up a bit. That much is actually a bit too much twist, but it's not a problem, as it's easily worked out as soon as one end of the leader is free.

Salt water leader - 10 lb line
For my general purpose salt water leader I use 0.23 (2X) Berkly Trilene line which is thick but very soft. I make 2½ turns on top 1½ turn in the middle section an 1 turn on the lower.
The single turn is made by tying the tag end to the lower section of the middle loops in stead of to the bottom plugs. This produces a nicely tapered leader with a fine tip of four strands. I attach a section of 0.26 (1X) to the tip of the twined leader if I want a longer tippet. If not I use a 50 cm (1½') piece of 0.23 (2X) Drennan Double Strength as a tippet.
This setup works like a charm for my 6-7-8 wt. salt water setup with almost any fly from size 10 to 2.
